Band engineering effectively increasing interaction effects holds the promise for a better understanding and eventual control over quantum many-body states of matter. This can be achieved in various ways, e.g., by globally reducing the bandwidth, by locally inducing high-order Van Hove points, or by designing lattice geometries which yield flat bands. Recently, there has been a surge in applications ranging from prominent solid-state systems such as cuprates or ruthenates over superconducting vanadates to moiré materials and semiconductors. Therefore, a broad community of mathematical, theoretical, and experimental physicists is interested in this topic and its outstanding challenges. The workshop aims at bringing together these physicists from different backgrounds to foster exchange and ignite collaborations on flat bands and high-order Van Hove singularities.
The event will be held in a novel format, with participants attending from two nodes, one in Europe (Dresden, Germany) and one in Asia (Daejeon, Korea). Interested participants are encouraged to attend from the geographically closer node, considering the environmental footprint (see at the bottom of the page for application links).
