Fractal weyl laws - beyond ballistic chaotic decay

In order to discuss resonances in very open systems (such as dielectric microresonators) it is desirable to adopt concepts which have been successfully applied to other classes of open systems, such as Weyl laws and random-matrix theory (RMT). This talk focuses on a class of dynamical models which allows to address the distribution of resonances in systems which are very open, where the decay is not ballistic, or where the internal dynamics is not fully chaotic. Results from individual systems are compared to the predictions of a renormalized RMT, where the renormalization in some cases corresponds to a fractal Weyl law.
