I will present open issues related to the problem of overcoming a potential barrier with help of non-Gaussian noise. In the weak noise limit, the problem reduces in the WKB-like approximation to an analysis of a non-integrable Hamiltonian dynamical system. Both the numerical as well as analytical perturbation approaches to this task seem rather subtle and are still a subject of controversy. I will demonstrate the theory on the experimentally relevant problem of the threshold detection of the full counting statistics in mesoscopic transport.
