The class of cobalt-based materials has attracted increasing interest in the last decade. It covers a wide range of fascinating properties, including superconductivitiy, giant magnetoresistance, exeptionally high thermopower, spin-blockade phenomena and unusual magnetic properties. In this presentation we would like to demonstrate the crucial role of the spin-orbit interaction in determining many of the physical properties of these materials.
