Geometrical frustration provides a fruitful avenue to unveil novel states of matter. Spin ice is one of the best studied frustrated magnetism due to classical spins. An interesting subject is quantum effects on the spin ice manifold on the pyrochlore lattice. Our study on Pr2Ir2O7 and related compounds indicates strong quantum effects in a spin ice state and emergence of a spin liquid state. If time permits, I will also talk about the possibility of spin-orbital entanglement on a honeycomb based lattice of Cu2+ in a quasi-two dimensional oxide material. |
