The Kugel-Khomskii models are physical extensions of the Heisenberg spin model for orbitally degenerate Mott-Hubbard systems. These are complex spin-orbital problems to study rigorously. Here, I present a class of such Kugel-Khomskii type models, with nearest-neighbor interaction, in one dimension which I have been able to solve exactly. It is found that, for this class of models, the spins exhibit an extensive degree of disorder, while the orbitals behave like an XXZ chain. |
