Microtubules are highly dynamic biopolymers involved in a wide variety of biological processes such as cell division and intracellular transport. From a physical point of view MTs can be modeled as semi-flexible polymers which have a persistence length several orders larger than the cell size, but it has been shown that they typically exhibit significant bending on the cellular length scales. We model the active deformation of a MT filament by coupling them to molecular motors which are moving on a model filament network. |
