The trajectories of a group of dogs and their owner were logged by GPS devices during their daily walking tours on an open field to investigate the characteristics of the individual paths and social interactions. We found that simple characteristics of the paths (distance covered, speed, average distance between different individuals) and frequencies of a dog returning to the owner are unique and consistent traits of the dogs. Data based on the trajectories were compared to the personality traits of the dogs measured by ethological tests. The social relations between the dogs were also mapped by using pairwise correlation functions calculated from their trajectories.
