We fabricate single and coupled optical ring resonators both in planar and vertical geometry. The planar configuration is used to fundamentally investigate the involved coupling mechanisms and to identify relevant tuning parameters for the optical modes. The vertical configuration is achieved by the roll-up of thin multifunctional layers into tubes and is mainly used for optofluidic applications. A concept to create resonant plasmonic modes in novel metamaterial fiber optics is introduced.
